These handmade wooden bowls are made from Japanese Zelkova wood, which is prized in Japan for building traditional Tansu furniture and Taiko drums. Finely lacquered to showcase the natural wood grain, the Tsumugi bowl is an artful way to enjoy soups and rice dishes. Perfectly symmetrical and smooth to the touch, this stunning piece is a testament to the perfection that can be achieved by a pair human hands.
Each of these handcrafted bowls goes through an intensive manufacturing process which begins with naturally drying and smoking out the moisture from the wood. After being dried and smoked, they are thinned, carved, then covered with a thin layer of lacquer 5-10 times over the course of a year. Every piece is lightweight and has its own characteristic of the natural wood grain pattern.
