NANAO is the name of the city where TAKAZAWA CANDLE company is located. A peaceful, picturesque place surrounded by sea and mountains. Each of the five candle styles have motifs of different plants that grow in the Noto Peninsula.
Traditional WA-ROUSOKU or Japanese candle handcrafted in Nanao, Ishikawa by artisan candle makers Takazawa Candle, established in 1892. The TAKAZAWA candle flame burns bigger and brighter due to the structure of the unique wick which is much thicker in diameter than western offerings and when extinguished, releases only a very subtle odour.
(The wick is made by wrapping dried material from a plant of the Juncaceae family referred to as 'lamp wick' or rush weed around washi shaped into a cylinder. This way of making wick allows air to pass up from the lower part of the candle through the wick's hollow centre, in addition to enabling the wick to absorb more melted wax, which in turn improves combustion and gives the candle a large, powerful flame).
