The upper face of the tray is IHADA-finished, a crude casting surface. The bottom is carved out so that the weight of the tray is just right for daily use. The tray gradually changes its colour over the course of years due to oxidisation. The longer it is used, the richer and subtler it becomes.
The KURO-MURA series are black coloured version of FUTAGAMI IHADA brass products. But please note that they are not just black coloured. Unlike one-note colouring of painting nor plating, the KURO-MURA shows a warm texture, and gives each product's own expression.
The traditional colouring method of TAKAOKA casting, KURO-MURA, makes the products something like an ancient excavated items. This is a traditional method used for Buddhist altar articles, which mixes pigments with Japanese lacquer, URUSHI. The product gradually changes its colour over the course of years due to oxidisation. The longer it is used, the richer and subtler it becomes.
