FINDING CALM

Posted by on

A Reminder.

It's a busy time for many of us with the year coming to a close and the holiday season taking many of us away from our usual routines.

I often find myself in the ironic situation of being too busy running a business built to inspire ritual to slow down and find time for my own rituals.

Here are a few of the things I am reminding myself to do daily to help me stay relaxed and focused...

1. MEET THE SUN
(and minimise screen time)

Exposure to EMF radiation is one of the biggest energy zappers we face in our daily lives, and on top of that the blue light emitted by our phones and computers is suppressing our melatonin production and reducing our quality of sleep. Therefore one of the simplest and most important things we can do each day for more energy is try to reduce our time spent in front of a screen.
I like to make sure that I meet the sun each morning, letting her healing light touch my face before the light emitted by any screens.

2. STAY PRESENT
Stress is almost always embedded in past traumas or future worries so staying present in each moment is key.

There are many strategies and tools that I employ to help bring myself back into the present moment when my mind begins to stray. I highly recommend reading Eckhart Tolle's The Power of Now and A New Earth to get yourself into the mindset of presence.

3. ABANDON PERFECTIONISM

I typically begin my day with an overwhelming list of tasks that I am planning to achieve. I find that much of my stress stems from my expectations of what I was hoping to get done often not being met. Simply letting go of these expectations and accepting life as it comes is easier said than done but absolutely essential.

4. EARTH

Earthing is being in conductive contact with the earth. It’s is a surprisingly powerful way to reduce pain and inflammation, sleep better, improve circulation and normalise blood pressure amongst many other benefits. Surprisingly many people go weeks on end without being in direct contact with the earth. So walk barefoot on the grass or jump in the ocean and immerse yourself in the most ancient and powerful healer of all time; mother earth.

These are just a few of my favourite rituals for reducing stress. I would love to hear yours too- please share on Instagram @shackpalace or in the comments here.
